Open-loop hydraulic systems are the most common type of hydraulic system. They use a pump to generate fluid flow and pressure to an actuator or motor. Once the fluid has completed its function, it is released from the system and does not flow back into the pump. The system lacks feedback control and usually operates at a constant flow rate.
Closed-loop hydraulic systems are designed for applications that require precise control of force or speed. These systems employ feedback mechanisms that use sensors and control valves to monitor and adjust fluid flow based on real-time conditions. Unlike open-loop systems, closed-loop systems redirect fluid to the pump to recycle the fluid after use. This allows for more efficient use and better control of movement and speed.
Continuously variable transmission hydraulic systems use a unique design that allows for smooth changes in output speed without discrete shifting. This type of hydraulic system uses a specialized pump and motor with a variable displacement or swash plate. By continuously changing the displacement setting, they can seamlessly adjust the output speed ratio based on load demand.
