1、 The basic structure of the plunger cylinder

The plunger is a key component in the plunger cylinder, which pushes and transmits pressure oil through reciprocating motion within the cylinder barrel. The sealing element is responsible for ensuring the sealing between the plunger and the cylinder barrel, preventing pressure oil leakage.
2、 Working principle of plunger cylinder
The working principle of the plunger cylinder in a metallurgical electric furnace mainly depends on the pushing effect of pressure oil. The specific process is as follows:
When pressure oil enters the plunger cylinder from the hydraulic system, it first enters the interior of the cylinder through the oil inlet port. At this point, the pressure oil exerts a certain thrust on the plunger, causing it to start moving outward.
During the movement of the plunger, the guide holes inside ensure that the pressure oil can be evenly distributed on the piston, thereby achieving a smooth pushing effect.
As the plunger moves forward, a sealed working chamber is formed between the plunger and the cylinder barrel. In this working chamber, pressure oil continuously applies pressure, pushing the piston forward. At the same time, due to the small clearance between the plunger and the cylinder, coupled with the function of the sealing element, the working chamber is effectively separated from other chambers, ensuring that the pressure oil does not leak.
When the pressure oil further enters the plunger chamber and the piston is tightly attached to the plunger, the plunger is tightly pressed against the bottom of the cylinder barrel, preventing further pressure oil from entering. At this point, the plunger cylinder has completed a working stroke.
When it is necessary to return the piston, the control system will adjust the oil circuit to allow pressure oil to be discharged from the plunger cylinder and flow back to the hydraulic system's oil tank. As the pressure oil is discharged, the plunger is subjected to the action of springs or other external forces and begins to return to its initial position, preparing for the next working cycle.
3、 Characteristics of Plunger Cylinder
The plunger cylinder of metallurgical electric furnace has the following characteristics:
Single acting hydraulic cylinder: Plunger cylinder is a type of single acting hydraulic cylinder, which can only rely on the pushing force of pressure oil to achieve movement in one direction. Its return journey relies on other external forces or the self weight of the plunger to achieve.
Suitable for long stroke: As the plunger only contacts the cylinder liner and does not directly contact the inner wall of the cylinder, the inner wall of the cylinder does not require precision machining, making the plunger cylinder particularly suitable for long stroke applications.
Good stability: The plunger cylinder has good stability during operation and can withstand large pressures and loads. This is mainly due to its robust plunger design and reasonable guiding structure.
